Firm Overview

Mr. Mathews' accomplished and interesting trial practice through the last 20 years has been focused on representation of injured victims of personal, corporate, and governmental negligence and wrongdoing.

He was trial counsel on the first successful case for fraud against a general aviation manufacturer in U.S. history.

He prevailed in a case against the Los Angeles Police Department for the unlawful use of a "nightstick" just months before the same police department successfully defended itself for its officer's use of their "nightsticks" in the Rodney King beating.

Insurance companies who harass, delay, and deny payment on insurance claims have been a regular focus of his practice. As a result of a case handled by Mr. Mathews, the law regarding insurance as it relates to interstate trucking was advanced in an opinion written by the 10th Circuit Court of Appeal.

Physicians who do not meet their community's standards and expectations have been made to answer for their negligent actions varying in scope from a case where improper office procedure caused injury and permanent disability, to a case where lack of proper care by a specialist took a young mother from her husband and family.

Other noteworthy professional malpractice cases have included an action against a law firm that failed to properly prosecute a case against Nissan in which the failure of the automobile left a young 18 year old student paraplegic. Mr. Mathews also represented a multinational corporation against an accounting firm whose negligence exposed the corporation to tremendous tax liability and penalties.

Mr. Mathews sums his practice up this way, "I feel fortunate to have a career that offers so much satisfaction, while allowing me to enjoy what I love most, being in the courtroom in front of a jury.
